WHO ATTENDS TAMISCAL?
- Students with diagnosed medical problems (physical or
psychological) that make attendance at a comprehensive high school
impractical.
- Students who must work to support themselves or their
families and can demonstrate that their work schedules make attendance at
a comprehensive site impractical.
- Students who must attend to the personal needs of a parent
or guardian and whose absence in the home during a regular school day
would cause a significant hardship for the family.
- Students who participate in a serious extracurricular
activity that makes attendance at a comprehensive site impractical.
(Professional or semi professional sports, performing arts, etc.)
- Students for whom attendance in their school of residence
creates a definable danger or significant distraction to their own
learning or to the learning of others.
- Students whose learning styles can be better accommodated
through independent study than through attendance at a comprehensive site.
All Tamiscal applicants and students are expected to meet
the following requirements:
- Show reasonable evidence (at the time of application) of
the ability to succeed in an independent study system of instructional
delivery.
- If enrolled because of an extracurricular activity,
students must continue participation in that activity.
- Participate sincerely in all district and state
assessments.
- Maintain the academic credits appropriate to grade level
and necessary to graduate on time.
- Remain enrolled in a minimum of four academic
classes at Tamiscal or four classes at Tamiscal and academic classes at
other schools as approved by the Principal. Academic classes are defined
as classes that:
(a)are required for graduation OR
(b)will satisfy a
requirement or recommendation for college or other post- high school
admission.
(Classes that do not meet
this requirement include but are not limited to: W.E.E.P. W.P.L., Peer Resource/
Leadership, Writing Workshop and Physical Education.)
