TAMISCAL HIGH SCHOOL
INDEPENDENT STUDY COURSE AGREEMENT
STUDENT _________________________________ COURSE 70442: SENIOR PROJECT
I. Student Learning Outcomes
All Tamiscal courses share the purpose of helping the student read, write,
speak, and solve problems effectively. This course is designed to aid the
students in developing a higher level of skills in exploring an area of
personal interest and in designing a means to lifelong independent learning.
II. Activities
Students must apply for this course by designing a project proposal that will
be submitted for approval to a committee. The Activities for the course will
vary depending on the proposal. The number of credits approved may also vary. Students
must keep a weekly journal that reflects on the week’s project activities and
records the hours spent that week on the project. Students must also write a
final report on the project and create a PowerPoint on their project. At the
end of the project, the PowerPoint will be used to give a formal presentation to
a board of judges and their peers.
III. Resources
Students are expected to utilize a wide a variety of community resources that
are appropriate to the project. Suggestions include but are not limited to
community businesses, business personnel, Tamiscal Homepage links, the
internet, District and County Libraries, CDs, videos, and relevant media.
IV. Assessment
For the purposes of evaluation and grading during the project, students will bring
their journals to their weekly meetings. Evaluation will be based on
organization, follow-through, and depth of learning resulting from the project.
Grading criteria for each individual project will be discussed at the beginning
of the project.
Final evaluation will include the journal, the report, the PowerPoint, and the formal presentation.
V. Duration
The agreement is effective until
the end of the current semester.
VI. Progress Monitoring
Progress will be monitored at weekly meetings; therefore, attendance is
required. Missed appointments may result in removal from the Senior Project
program.
Grades and credits will be reported at
the quarter and end of the semester.
