INDEPENDENT STUDY COURSE AGREEMENT

STUDENT____________________________ COURSE 70410: LEADERSHIP

I. Student Learning Outcomes
All Tamiscal courses share the purpose of helping the student read, write, speak, and solve problems effectively.

Students will demonstrate key leadership skill through student activity planning and organization, participation in student government, and community service. Central skills to be developed and refined through this course include developing social awareness, self-confidence and strong self-esteem. Students will demonstrate responsibility, adaptability, flexibility, communication skills, peer counseling and tutoring skills, Collaboration, problem-solving, decision making and self-reflection/evaluation.

II. Activities

  1. Students will attend weekly seminars
  2. Students will receive training in the above mentioned skills-which include attending training courses and conferences outside of the school setting.
  3. Students will keep leadership notebooks, reflective journals, service logs
  4. Evaluations
  5. Students will create vision, mission and/or objective statements
  6. Students will fulfill all assigned job responsibilities.
III. Resources
In addition to the textbook, students are expected to utilize Tamiscal Homepage links, the internet, Electric Library, District and County libraries, CDs, Videos, and relevant media. Other resources may include speakers from community resources, trainings, visits to social service agencies.

IV. Assessment
Assignments for this course will include preparation for meeting District Outcome Assessments. For the purposes of evaluation and grading during the course, the following methods may be used: weekly assignments; projects; laboratory work; written reports; presentations; participation; quizzes and exams. Students will be informed of the grading criteria at the beginning of each semester.

V. Duration
The agreement is effective until the end of the current semester. Course may be repeated as necessary or desired. Students repeating the course will be expected to meet increasingly higher standard on the student learning outcomes and will be expected to assume greater responsibility as well as demonstrate initiative in developing leadership skills.

VI. Progress Monitoring
Progress will be monitored at weekly meetings; therefore, attendance is required. Missed appointments, tests, and assignments will result in partial course credits and may result in required attendance to Supervised Independent Study (SIS).

Grades and credits will be reported at the quarter and end of the semester.
